University of Toronto Industrial Engineering Class of 6T7

40th Reunion - June 1-3, 2007

Has it really been 5 years since we got everyone together? Surely not. But our bodies don't lie. We don't eat as much, don't drink as much and don't do some others things as much either. But we can still tell great stories (those we can actually remember). After 40 long years, it was great to see the return of old friends Grant McNabb, Janusz Sobieniak and Ado Vaher. Maybe next time we'll get the few stragglers who are left!

We did the same stuff as we did at the 30th and the 35th with the same results ...

Bagel's socksThe Traditional Golf Match
It was business as usual, starting with the golf match at Parkview. Bagel wore his favourite socks (hard to believe they let him on the course).

New golfers this year were Grant McNabb and Ray Bailey, and returning from a long absence, Dag Furst. For a special treat a group of spouses joined us. Either the women are playing better or the guys worse because one of the awards went to the fairer sex.

The low net, and with it the IE6T7 trophy, went to Pullam (finally) with a hard fought 68. Lynch took the low gross with a sizzling 85. The closest to the hole was won by Ted Swain who was the only golfer within 10 feet. A serious embarassment to the class virility was the longest drive which went to Sharon Pullam. She may have had a big teeing advantage, but her drive went right down the centre, nearly 100 yards past the one the boys left that had barely made the fairway. The boys paid up, but not without a lot of whining.

The gang stuck around Parkview for a drink and a munch and then the folks attending the Official Engineering Reunion Dinner took off to get cleaned up. The rest of us went to Jack Astor's and probably had just as much fun!

Dueling camerasThe Class Dinner & Reception
The real class dinner (not to be confused with the Official Engineering Reunion Dinner) was held Saturday night at the Mimosa Bistro, 2497 Yonge Street, near Wayne Jeffrey's place. Our thanks to Wayne for hosting the now traditional backyard reception, and for both Wayne and Jim Fenwick for selecting and negotiating the dinner.

The reception was great, carefully dodging the threatened rain that afternoon. It featured awesome snacks (many of which had to be shared with the neighbours later) and dueling photographers. Kim Hunt brought her camera this time and could be seen shooting snaps all afternoon long. Many of the gang took away great portrait-quality shots to be framed later.

The dinner was downstairs at Mimosa Bistro. It was a tad on the dark side so a lot of the pictures didn't turn out that well. Click here to see those that did.

Ray on displayThe Pool Party
Once again the gang displayed their "mature" bodies at Pullam's traditional closing pool party. The weather was a little iffy but the rain held off until 5 p.m., just in time to chase away those folks who weren't smart enough to leave when it was over.

Can you imagine what this will look like in 2012 or 2017? Do you want to even think about it?

By the way, if you'd like to print any of these shots, just give Pullam a shout and you can get an original full-sized image.
