Thursday June 1, 2017 - The Golf!

This was our 21st annual class golf day and drunk. Well, when we were a tad younger it was a drunk, but these days there are a lot of soft drinks being consumed, and maybe the occasional non-alcoholic adult beverage.

The turnout was a record, with 17 guys and 4 gals tackling the famed Lakeview Golf Course in Mississauga, just west of the GTA. Does anyone remember that this was the home course for the Canadian Open in 1923 and 1934? No wonder it gave us so much trouble. This year saw the return of David-Jose Peryer, alumnus of 6T7 Mining Engineering and donor of the class trophy. Who would have thought that the trophy he brought us in 1998 would stand the test of time and now have two extensions added to the base, just like the Stanley Cup!

The class champion for 2017 was Les Segal. Les shot a sizzling 101 for a net 76. That tells you something about the quality of the competition this year. Excuses heard from the groups were: brutal winds, heavy and wet rough, difficult golf course, and various aches and pains. Les's foursome was so anxious to compete that they had a premature entry onto the golf course, jumping ahead of a group that was scheduled to tee off before us and missing out on the photo op for their foursome.

The other big winners were Lee Stinson (6T7 Chemical) who took close to the pin and low gross, and David-Jose Peryer (6T7 Mining) for long drive. Handy turned the tables on Fraz, sneaking by him by one stroke (137 to 136) to take the most honest golfer award. We really missed Doug Stephens on the golf course. Hope to see him back next year so we can restore some of our class dignity on the links!

Other firsts were: the biggest golf turnout ever (21), more women than ever (4), Larry Reeder joined us for dinner, Peryer finally got to touch the trophy he contributed, and Lynch finished 18.

Here are the scores. Out of respect for the gentler sex, we only post scores from the men.
