University of Toronto Industrial Engineering Class of 6T7

June 3, 2016 - It's not getting any better!

The great weather returned and that's the best thing we can say about our 20th annual golf event. The boys are looking older and uglier and the golf isn't pretty either. Handicaps are sagging along with various body parts, so it's a good thing we don't have any spectators or videos.

This year's turnout improved with the return of Jim Allen, Ray Bailey and a properly attired Zohir Handy. The list of ailments grew with the addition of bad backs, bad knees and bad hands. And the number of guys choosing to hit from the women's tees has grown to 3. Talk is that pretty soon we'll need to find a par 3 course and after that maybe we'll be playing mini-golf.

Pullam lifted his head above the muck, walked away with a low net of 72 and was declared Class Champion for 2016. It was pretty easy pickings. Baldwin remembered to bring the class trophy with him this year, having kept it for 2 years after his 2014 win. So Doug Stephens, last year's winner, got to caress it on the way to Pullam. If Baldwin had won, we were going to give it to Stephens this year to restore the balance in the universe.

Observant folks may notice that this year the trophy sports a new and improved base. Gone is the grey, no-cost wooden base that Lynch fashioned in his basement in 2013. Very chique.

Swain smacked a great drive on hole 5, but we told him that Stephens had beaten him. We strung him along for quite a while until finally admitting that he won it and the closest-to-the-pin prize too. Guppy won low gross with an 87, but the tightest contest of the year was for the covetted "most honest golfer". The return of Zohir put a lot of pressure on Fraz, but in the end Fraz squeeked by with a one stroke lead to retain his title (129-128).

We're all looking forward to next year, being our 50th anniversary. We expect to have a larger field including members of the fairer sex who by tradition will also compete for the prize money.

So here's how we scored:
