University of Toronto Industrial Engineering Class of 6T7

June 3, 2011 - Boy, do we suck!

John wins!Golf quality reached an all time low this year at Oakridge Golf Club. Over half the field shot on the wrong side of 100 and the record for lost balls reached 8. This course was challenging with a slope of 134, but was it really that tough? Obviously John Adare didn't think so as he had a career game, nabbing the trophy with a dazzling net 68.

But the rest of us ground our way through the course, hitting (and losing) provisonal balls on holes too numerous to mention. The marshall visited several times and chastised the lead group to pick up the pace. The second group who were hot on their heals heard the cries of "Hit the ball!" from the golfers behind. Oh the embarrassment of it all.

Our numbers were down this year as several of the boys scheduled this date to be out of the city, but the 8 who remained enjoyed a beautiful day (one of the few lately) followed by a great evening at Brooklin's finest Mexican Restaurant, the El Dorado. With next year being our 45th, we anticipate a larger turnout as well as a foursome of the gentler sex joining us.

The low gross was shared by Pullam and Stephens with matching scores of 90. Our iron play was so bad that no one hit the green on the first par 3, so we called for a "do over" on the next one and a contingency for the one after that. Fortunately John Adare managed to hit the green on the second par 3, taking close-to-the-hole. The long drive was won by Bob Demcoe, easily passing Ted Swain's fabulous tee shot on number 15.

Ted Swain Lifetime Achievement AwardBack by popular (?) demand is our annual contest of "Where in the world is Janusz Sobieniak?" See if you can guess ... full size photo and answer at the bottom. Hey Janusz, hope you join us next year.

Ted and Les got together before the game to choose the winner of the Ted Swain Lifetime Achievement Award. After much research into the necessary qualities and the history and integrity required of the next winner, they selected Pullam for the honour. Below Les makes his presentation speech and unveils the winner, much to the delight of all who were there.

So here's how we scored:
