June 6, 2008 - Stephens finds his game! After years of tanking it, Doug Stephens finally found his game (his "net" game that is). It took some careful negotiation combined with a lot of sandbagging, but Doug's handicap reached the dizzying height of 16, thus allowing him to sneak by with a net win. And because the trophy has always been awarded to the net whiner (er ... winner), Doug now has his first. Here we see Doug surrounded by all the good things in life. What more could an engineer want? Not to be outdone, Flinch made his presence known with a commanding low gross of 79. The Gupster pounded one of his many long drives and managed to keep this one in the fairway (see pic below) so he ran off with the long drive award. Adare managed to hit the green on 13 (unlike most others) so he captured the close-to-the-pin money. Richmond Hill played like a turkey. The greens stimped at about a minus 3, and the tournaments we followed could barely achieve a 5 1/2 hour pace. Fortunately one of the tournament groups packed it in early so they could get to the bar and drown their sorrows. Rumour has it that there will be a write-in ballot to return to Parkview next year. And speaking of democracy, Flinch seized the floor, and made an impassioned speech on behalf of the higher handicappers. He wants to let them have infinitely large handicaps, expanding the competition for the class trophy next year. Your fearless organizer argued for quality but the gang voted in favour of the motion, so next year watch out. We may see some new faces holding that little devil. But it'll definitely cost next year's winner dearly because it'll be time to add another level to IE6T7's Stanley. Check out the scores and shots below ... maybe next year, you too will have a Kodak moment.
