Things are definitely thinning out these days, and I don't just mean the hairlines. After the usual call for golfers we ended up with 6 classmates and 2 partners to fill out the foursomes. More and more of the responses to the call for golf are "I don't play anymore", "I'm too old" or "Pullam? Who's he?"
The first group consisted of Les & Sylvia Segal (who kept Les honest and well behaved), Jim Allen and Doug Stephens. Group two was Phil Baldwin, Glenda Urquhart (Phil's partner), John Adare and John Pullam.
These days the main competition is to make sure that you don't end up with the trophy. Cuz if you do, it's your job to get the next shield added with your name and the date. And history has show some strange things can happen to the trophy. This year, we have a repeat winner named Jim Allen. In fact Jim was so sure that he was going to win that he didn't even bring the trophy in to dinner. In the pic on the right you can see Jim proudly displaying it to John Adare in the parking lot, just to prove that he had it with him. And take a look at the enlarged pic to see the square "shield" he added. Jim was the victim of an engraver who claimed that the style we have used for 25+ years isn't available any more. Yeah, right. Now our next winner needs to prove him wrong and get 2 shields prepared.
There was no longest drive or close to the pin for obvious reasons. Stephens got low gross and Adare was most honest golfer. Best looking golfer was a tie between Sylvia and Glenda.
So what happens next year? Maybe it'll be one foursome? Hey the competition is getting easier and easier!
